Moviepass Pricing Now Determined By District

After a few weeks of stability, MoviePass has now announced a new pricing model set to take effect from January 1st and will vary in price not only by tiers but also by regionality.

The lowest tier is ‘Select’ and allows a subscriber to see up to three movies per month, at some point during a film’s theatrical run, in 2D only. Films are available at any given moment is subject to change. In smaller markets it will cost $10 a month, in mid-sized markets $13 per month, and in large markets $15 per month.

The middle tier is ‘All Access’ which lets subscribers see any three films per month, at any time during the film’s run, but subscribers will be restricted to 2D screenings. In smaller markets it will cost $15 a month, in mid-sized markets $18 per month, and in large markets $20 per month.

The highest tier is ‘Red Carpet’ which lets subscribers see any three films per month in any format. In smaller markets it will cost $20 a month, in mid-sized markets $22 per month, and in large markets $25 per month.

What will determine the difference and where the demarcation lines of each ‘market’ are is unclear. The announcement comes three weeks after MoviePass’s parent company, Helios and Matheson Analytics, reported that it lost $137.2 million in the third quarter of 2018.
