What does it mean to hold an awards show in the thick of the #MeToo movement—a sweeping reckoning that is bringing Hollywood’s worst sins to light, and attempting to transform the industry into a safer, more inclusive space? We’ll find out Sunday night around 8 P.M., when the Golden Globe Awards begins on NBC.
Of course, this show isn’t just about grappling with the post-Weinstein Hollywood landscape, or finding a safe space for cathartic jokes about this particularly tense moment (break a leg, Seth Meyers!), or even awarding Oprah Winfrey a Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. It’s also about handing statuettes to 2017’s most notable films and television programs, and maybe, possibly indicating which of these projects could make it all the way to the Oscar podium. Will The Shape of Water parlay its seven nominations into a sweep, or will its closest competition, The Post and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri stop its momentum? Will Meryl Streep walk away with her ninth Globe? Will Get Out, that hilarious romp, snatch up awards in the comedy categories?
Tune in to find out, and check below to find a running list of winners, updated as they get announced on air. Oh, and don’t forget to compare the final results with our predicted winners.
