Ed Sheeran has reportedly landed a gig at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding.
The “Perfect” singer is one of the artists who are speculated to perform at the upcoming royal wedding, and it looks like there’s a bigger chance he will get to sing for the Duke and his bride. An insider told Entertainment Tonight that Sheeran has received an invitation to be among the artists who will entertain the guests at Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding reception.
“Ed Sheeran has yet to confirm but I’m not sure you turn down Prince Harry and Meghan Markle,” ET royal correspondent Victoria Arbiter said, agreeing that Sheeran is the perfect singer for the evening reception. “People love his romantic love songs so he’s an ideal candidate for that first dance and I think Harry has always enjoyed Ed Sheeran.”
Sheeran was previously asked about the possibility of him performing at the royal wedding. In December, the “Thinking Out Loud” artist said that he’d play “if I was free.”
“I get asked this all the time like I know the royal family. I’ve met Harry once!” Sheeran confessed. “[And] that was in 2011 at his grans’ Jubilee, and it was like, ‘Hey.’ ‘Hey’… I barely know him!”
Aside from Sheeran, a number of artists are also expected to perform at Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding. Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen and Rod Stewart may get an invite to perform as well. The list also includes Pharrell Williams, Duran Duran and Elton John.
In related news, John has already rescheduled his concert that was set for the weekend of Prince Harry and Markle’s nuptials. According to John, he has to push the dates back due to “scheduling conflict.”
John’s fans suspect that the pop icon will be attending the royal wedding, hence the change in his concert dates. But John has not yet confirmed if he has been invited to the ceremony.
During this year’s Grammy Awards, ET’s Cameron Mathison asked the “Candle in the Wind” singer if he has already received an invite to Prince Harry and Markle’s nuptials. According to John, he has not received any invitation.
“I have no idea. No one’s been invited yet,” he told ET.
However, John’s husband, David Furnish, is hoping that they will get a chance to attend the wedding of the year. “Crossing our fingers!” he said.
