Daniel Morcombe’s killer Brett Peter Cowan has been assaulted by another inmate in Brisbane’s Wolston Correctional Centre.

Queensland Corrective Services said Cowan suffered superficial wounds to his neck and ear in the attack.

The assault happened in a common area of the prison’s secure unit.

The weapon was an “improvised implement”.

“Queensland Corrective Services officers brought the situation quickly under control,” a statement said.

“No officers were injured. The prisoner did not sustain any serious injury.”

Cowan is serving a life sentence for the 2003 murder of the 13-year-old Sunshine Coast schoolboy.

In 2016, Cowan was scalded after boiling water was thrown at him.

Adam Paul Davidson pleaded guilty to torturing Cowan over that incident and was sentenced to another three years in prison.

In sentencing, the court heard Davidson had said: “I did it … he had it coming. He’s a f**king grub”.
